About the Octet

The Melbourne Octet was formed by mezzo-soprano, Helena Ekins, as a touring ensemble, completing a tour to Sweden in July 2019…then confined to Melbourne ever since. The Octet has performed for the Woodend Winters Arts Festival, Ballarat Organs of the Goldfields Festival, Moonee Valley Winter Arts Festival, in concert series in various local venues and on Australian Digital Concert Hall, presenting works from the 12th to 21st centuries, from plainchant to close harmony jazz.

We bring a combined experience in ensemble singing that allows us to explore rarely heard works, and we aim to provide a platform for Australian composers and arrangers.

The Octet is made up of professional voices; regular soloists/chorus in opera, oratorio or jazz, all with a love for eight part harmony.

Melbourne Octet mourns the loss of our dear friend and colleague, Belinda Wong.
